Hikvision 5MP Turbo Update - The new 3K Format Explained (Updated with compatibility info)

Hikvision has provided us with an often overwhelming selection of Turbo HD Cameras (Coax) and this latest offering has left even us scratching our heads a little. But here is what you should know about this new format:

• Contrary to popular belief, these are not 6 Megapixel Cameras. They offer a 2960 × 1665 resolution which totals 4,928,400 pixels, so these are still 5 Megapixel cameras. A standard 5 Megapixel camera may feature a 2560 × 1944 resolution, only slightly fewer pixels.
• The main difference is the 3K cameras provide a slightly wider (and slightly shorter) 16:9 widescreen picture format, that suits modern-day displays better just as 2mp and 4k images do.

• At the moment Hikvision is set to phase out the pre-existing 5mp ColorVu Turbo Series in favour of 3K and at the moment there are no imminent plans to release a non-colorvu 3K option.
• There are two series of ColorVu 3K cameras - the KF3T series offers superior low light performance, so will be able to stay in full colour without the white light assistance at lower light levels.
• Important: There are issues with pre-existing DVRs supporting this newer format correctly, a number do work with firmware updates (see further down the page), the latest M1/M2 series of DVRs are ideal as bundled in our latest kit builders here: https://www.cctvkits.co.uk/hd-...
