- Hard Drive Size Guide
Unless selecting a vari-focal camera (with an adjustable lens) It is important to select the correct camera lens option for where the camera is to be positioned. A smaller lens will give you a wider angle but will be "zoomed out more", while a bigger lens will narrow the angle down and "zoom in more". See below to give you some idea on angles of Megapixel HD Cameras:
Lens in mm | Approx Viewing Angle (degrees) | Ideal Distance (metres) | Typical usage/notes |
---|---|---|---|
2.8 | 106 | <6 | For seeing as much of the immediate area as possible such as above a doorway/low down/garage soffits (edges can appear slightly warped/distorted) - clearly "zoomed out" |
3.6/4 | 83-90 | <12 | A great general purpose option giving great coverage still in the corner of a room or higher up on second floor soffits with less distortion - more of a natural "zoom" |
6 | 56 | 6-20 | Narrows down the angle and zooms in to look past the immediate area a little to gain more detail - down a driveway for example from higher up |
12 | 24 | 20+ | Zooms in significantly more to look at a gate, entrance or adjascent building |
16 | 19 | 24+ | As above but more so |
The amount of hard drive space you require is dictated by how many cameras, as well as their resolution, frame rate settings, and whether you have H.265 encoding enabled or not to save space (We advise turning it on to double the capacity shown below with ease).
Finally, you can often make your storage space last a lot longer by enabling motion-detected recording rather than continuous, especially if there are long periods of no activity (to perhaps double or more these figures again).
Resolution (Megapixels) |
Days of storage provided by 1TB per camera (continuous - full 25 frames per second) |
Days of storage provided by 1TB per 4 cameras (continuous - full 25 frames per second) |
Days of storage provided by 1TB per 4 cameras (50% motion- 15 frames per second) |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 44 | 11 | 36 |
2 | 22 | 5 | 18 |
3 | 17 | 4 | 14 |
4 | 11 | 3 | 9 |
5 | 9 | 2 | 8 |
6 | 8 | 2 | 6 |
8 (4K) | 5 | 1 | 4 |
12 | 4 | 0.5 | 3 |
As a rule of thumb, we recommend 2 Terabytes for a 4 x 4/5MP HD camera setup, as this should give you approx 2 weeks using H.265 @ 20fps and that is on continuous, not motion-detected recording.
(You may only require the full 25 frames per second on certain cameras if things are fast-moving - ie above a till)

The new Axion 2 XQ35 Pro - Upgraded Thermal Sensitivity
Upgrading Axion series, the Axion 2 XQ35 Pro features an 384x288, 17µm, <25 mK NETD thermal sensor, powerful 35mm f1.0 germanium objective lens, greatly improved image quality, and an extended battery life of up to 11 hours on a single charge.
With a wide range of features packed into a compact and lightweight design, this thermal imaging monocular is easy to grip and can be comfortably operated no matter whether the user is right- or left-handed thanks to the symmetrical design with an in-line button arrangement on the upper panel.
Highly Sensitive Lynred 384x288, 17µm, <25 mK NETD Sensor
The Axion 2 XQ35s highly sensitive European Lynred 384x288, 17µm, <25 mK NETD thermal imaging sensor, combined with a powerful 35mm f1.0 Germanium objective lens, provides an impressive 1300m detection range of a standard 1.8m object in total darkness, even in difficult conditions such as dense fog, heavy rain, and or in environments with high levels of humidity.
Magnesium Alloy Housing
Despite its compact size, this thermal imaging monocular has been designed with constant, often hard, use in mind. The magnesium alloy housing, though extremely light, is also incredibly strong, reliably protecting the Axion 2 XQ35 Pros internal components from shocks, drops, moisture, heat, or cold. The metal housing also acts as a heat sink, dissipating any heat caused by the internal electronics, minimising image noise, and increasing device operation consistency over long periods of observation.
IPX7 Waterproof
The Axion 2 XQ35 Pros IPX7 waterproof rating means that this thermal imaging monocular will work in heavy rain, high humidity, and will even withstand immersion in water to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.
Fast Aperture 35mm f1.0 Lens
The fast aperture Germanium 35mm f1.0 objective lens features high infrared transmission in the LWIR range and will produce image detail that is extremely clear and incredibly well distinguished.
Enhanced Image Processing
Enhanced image processing algorithms within the Pulsar Axion 2 XQ35 Pro provide high quality rendering of both target objects and background. Three available levels of signal amplification, combined with a connected smoothing filter and fine brightness and contrast adjustments, provide the user with greater opportunities in terms of long-range detection of an animal and its extremities under a variety of different weather and temperature conditions.
Up to 11 Hours Battery Life
When it comes to power, dont let the size of the Axion 2 XQ35 Pro fool you… The APS5 rechargeable battery offers up to 11 hours of battery life on just a single charge (dependant on temperature). Removing and replacing the battery is possible in just seconds thanks to the intuitive design, and recharging is as simple as placing the battery into its charging dock, or plugging directly into a PC or household power system via a USB-C cable.
Variable Magnification
The base magnification of this thermal monocular increases by four times at 2x - 8x, with a zoom which can change either gradually by 2x steps, or continuously, allowing the user to set the ideal magnification ratio and visible field of view to suit any situation.
AMOLED Display
The Axion 2 XQ35 Pro includes a high contrast VGA-resolution AMOLED display, which features enhanced colour rendering to provide a clear and smooth picture whilst on-the-move.
Picture in Picture (PiP) Mode
Picture in Picture (PiP) mode allows the user to display a zoomed in zeroing frame at the top of the display, in which the observation area can be magnified by x2 or x4, whilst simultaneously retaining visual control over the entire field of view.
8 Colour Palettes
A choice of eight colour palettes provides the user with the ability more effectively observe their field of view, optimising the Axion 2 XQ35 Pro for specific tasks and allowing it to react to changing observation conditions. For object detection, White Hot, Black Hot, and Red Hot are most effective; Rainbow and Ultramarine is best for object recognition and identification; and Red Monochrome, Sepia, and Violet are most suitable for long observation periods in darkness.
Built-In Video & Still Image Recorder
Capture once-in-a-lifetime moments with built-in video and still image recording capabilities. The Axion 2 XQ35 Pros internal memory is capable of storing hours of videos and tens of thousands of still images at just the touch of a button.
Footage is easily copied onto a computer using a USB-C cable, or, with the built-in WiFi module and Stream Vision 2 connectivity, the user can easily view and share memorable moments of their hunt straight from the cloud.
Stream Vision 2
Connecting the Stream Vision 2 mobile app will provide a variety of intuitive features and functionalities, including the ability to use your mobile phone or tablet as a second screen, remote control of digital functions, viewing and sharing videos and still images, remotely installing all the latest firmware updates, and much more. Whats more, users will receive a generous 16GB of free cloud storage in which to keep their video recordings and still images. The app is available for Apple and Android devices on the Apple AppStore and the Google Play Store respectively.
The Axion 2 XQ35 Pro will complement the standard smartphone 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi frequency range with an effective 5 GHz connection range, vastly improving the bandwidth and connection stability, as well as providing a faster rate of data transfer and noise immunity, all for more a more reliable operation of thermal imager and smartphone.
