CCTV Camera lens options
Different sizes of lenses give different viewing angles. The field of view from a given lens will also be affected by the size and type of sensor the camera is using, but for the most part these will all be fairly similar.
The lens of your CCTV camera will generally be fixed or varifocal. The fixed lens, as it sounds is non moveable and is set in a fixed position. The varifocal lens is adjustable within its stated range to suit the viewing scene. Some cameras will have a motorized varifocal lens that can be adjusted remotely should the need arise.
So what size lens do I need?
When choosing a fixed lens camera, you should consider the area you wish to cover. A wide area warrants a smaller lens while long distance viewing would suit a bigger lens as the subject you would be looking at would be within a narrower field of view. A varifocal lensed camera gives you the option to "fine tune" the angle of view to suit perfectly, rather than relying on the predetermined lengths set out by the manufacturer.
